Alpaslan Düven, President of Turkish-British Journalists Association and London Correspondent for A News, gave a presentation to middle school students titled “The Past and Present of Journalism, Who is a Journalist, Future of Journalism, Foreign News and A News.”
The event was attended by Education Sciences Kurtköy School Principal Burhan Ergül and targeted secondary school students. Düven shared insights from his career, which spanned from 1994 to 2019, discussing the changes and innovations in journalism, the role of foreign correspondents, and the Turkish press abroad.
Explaining how the students, aged 12 to 15, reacted to the session, Düven said, “Middle school students asked interesting questions about fake news. A student asked, ‘Have you ever written fake news?’ Another asked, ‘Why do they write fake news?’ Would you expect these questions from middle school students? Honestly, I wouldn’t expect it either, but that’s how it is. Don’t say ‘he is a child, he does not understand.’ They know so much; they are so aware…you would be surprised.”
Stating that he had received many invitations from Turkey, Düven added, “I will try to attend the invitations in line with the possibilities. When it comes to children, running waters stop. It is a great feeling to be in front of children.”
After the presentation, Düven took a souvenir photo with the children and distributed the flowers presented to him among them.
